Our Projects
WITNESS Project International started working with youth and communities through arts based programming with our very successful photography portrait project, as part of the 2011 TED Prize winner JR’s global Inside Out Project.
As a result of the success of that arts project we were given a full page each week in the leading national newspaper, The Stabroek News, for a youth page called WE SEE – written by the WITNESS Project youth based on their own experiences of how the violence they see affects them.
From there we moved to film. With absolutely no prior experience in filmmaking, the Witness Project youths wrote, directed, acted in, and shot the short film “Rebecca’s Story” under the teaching guidance of industry filmmakers Morgan Riles and Ginger Theisen.
The film is currently being screened at various film festivals and will be featured on the Educational channel in Georgetown Guyana.
Right now our youth are working on creating a series of PSAs that will be shown on local television.
We are looking forward to making a difference through the arts. If you’d like to be a part of what we’re doing, contact us here.
